In the centuries since that great war, the people of Ithulmia knew peace. The god of light's influence was without parallel, yet all the same; there were those who plotted in the shadows, seeking the revival of the dark god. And with his essence leaking past the seal of the obelisk, a substance known as Corruption was birthed; those coming into contact with it twisted into vile beasts who sought to convert others into their own.
As if from thin air, six maidens appeared from nowhere; travelling across Ithulmia and granting salvation to those transformed by the Corruption, reverting them to their original forms. Revered as heroes for their miraculous efforts, the six would often ask about the Echoed Obelisk; not knowing that the legend behind the ancient structure had been lost to time.
Of course, it would not take long before the old tales resurfaced in light of their salvation. Rumored to have been built as a byproduct of a war centuries past, word spread quickly about an ancient power said to rest at the top of the tower; granting those who reached the top abilities unlike those ever glimpsed.
The king, having been notified of the providential efforts of the six maidens, invited them to the castle in order to both honor them and discern their reasons for wishing to access the Echoed Obelisk; something even the royal family was forbidden from.
The night preceding the six's audience with the benevolent ruler, a leading general sworn to the king, General Ivraol, eliminated the good king and usurped the throne. Ivraol, of course, was far from popular with the general populace of Ithulmia, who viewed him as a man motivated by pure ambition.
Unaware of this development, the six maidens wandered into the castle with an obvious trap awaiting them. It did not take long before they were captured and interrogated, their knowledge of the Echoed Obelisk and an ancient battle forced to be revealed.
With the king's death and the six captured, the Corruption overtook Ithulmia at frightening speed.
A rebel force has gathered in secret to plot against Ivraol's blatant tyranny. Weeks of careful planning, and soon enough it was learned that two out of the six maidens still lived; imprisoned within a guardhouse south of the castle.
Rallying those who would seek to save the two captured souls, overthrow the mad tyrant Ivraol, and discover what lay at the top of the Echoed Obelisk; a path to unearthing Ithulmia's history would be in sight...
