Luckily, in the first bag Laura finds, she spots a preschooler’s outfit. Unluckily, the outfit includes a pair of training pants. But beggars can’t be choosers.
She quickly removes the kindergarten uniform, pulls up the training pants, and puts on the T-shirt and overalls from the bag. At the sound of a chaperone approaching, Laura quickly stuffs the dice in the pocket of the overalls, stuffs the kindergarten uniform into a bag, and walks away. The chaperone doesn’t even glance at her.
Having escaped detection, Laura wanders over to the play area and sits down in the section reserved for younger children. She watches the man from earlier check the attendance sheet, scratch his head in confusion, and call back the searching chaperones, as the little girl he’d lost sight of was not on the list. Her relief vanishes, however, when one of the chaperones walks over and grabs her hand, pulling her to her feet.
“The kindergarteners are all on the bus, so now the bumblebees get to board!” the chaperone chirps at her. Laura’s eyes widen. The trip to the McDonald’s wasn’t just for kindergarteners. The school must also have a preschool, and those students were also brought to the restaurant.
As the chaperone leads Laura to a group of preschoolers, she weighs her options quickly.
