Laura mingles with the crowd of children as they get their meals waiting for a chance to slip away and get her stuff back, but soon sees they're not staying to eat. As soon as each kid gets a meal they're led straight back to the bus. If she doesn't get away soon who knows where this field trip would take her?
She soon sees that her best bet is to make her way back over to the play structure and wait out the group's departure. Slowly she works her way through the crowd and to the entrance. Just as she steps through the door and thinks she's safe, the man from earlier spots her.
"No, remember there's no time to stop to play there."
Laura runs inside and quickly climbs into a tunnel too small for him to follow, but she knows it's only going to do so much good when the man will just be waiting outside to scold her for running off. Laura looks for a slide or exit that will let her sneak past him and finds that no matter which route she took there'd be no avoiding him for long.
When she finds a slide that leads to a corner of the room that's currently empty except for unattended bags and strollers, Laura realizes the only way she's escaping the kindergarten chaperone is to be too young for kindergarten. Looks like being small for her age might be a blessing in disguise after all.
She goes down the slide and creeps over to the bags looking for anything that would fit her.
