With nothing else to do, Laura picks up one of the toddler toys and halfheartedly plays with it. Abruptly, she feels a pressure in her bowels. Her eyes widen in panic. She just got her diaper changed, she can’t go through another one so soon! Laura gets to her feet and toddles over to Mason, intending to tell him to grab the attendant, but before she reaches him, her tenuous hold on her bowels breaks. She squats and fills her fresh diaper.
Her grunts, despite being as quiet as she can make them, attract the attention of every child in the car. All eyes are on her as she messes herself. Mason sighs, gets up, and leaves the car to get the attendant while Laura is still pooping. A little girl about six points at Laura, giggling.
“You’re pooping!” the girl teases. Tears prick the corners of Laura’s eyes. This is what she’s been reduced to. A toddler messing her just changed diaper, being teased by a kindergartener. When she finishes, Laura sits on the ground. The feeling of the mush in her diaper and the smell finally make her break down. She begins to sob.
“Oh, no, does someone need another diaper change?” asks the attendant, returning with Mason in tow. Laura wails loudly. “She sure does!” Laura is picked up and brought back into the bathroom for yet another diaper change. She continues to cry throughout it, only silenced when the attendant pops a pacifier into her mouth. Laura sucks on it instinctively and finds it surprisingly comforting. After that, the change ends quickly. The attendant brings Laura back to the main area.
“Are you really going to leave her here?” Mason asks tartly. “She’s pooped herself! Don’t you have a car for babies like her?” The attendant looks at Laura, still sucking eagerly on the pacifier, and responds.
