Laura can’t spend the entire train ride in her wet diaper. It’s getting more uncomfortable by the second. She takes her wallet and dice case out of her romper and stuffs them in the pile of toddler toys, then goes over to Mason. Mason looks up at her with a sigh.
“What?” he asks.
“I wet,” Laura says. Again, she’s disgruntled by her reduced speaking ability. Mason wrinkles his nose.
“You’re a baby. You can stay in the diaper.”
“No!” Laura whines, stomping her foot. Mason huffs and tosses his book aside.
“Fine!” He storms out of the car. After a few minutes, Mason comes back with the woman that had brought Laura on the train.
“Apparently we have a dirty diaper?” the woman asks, walking over to Laura and picking her up. She sticks a finger down the back of Laura’s diaper. “Oh, yeah, you’re soaked! Come with me, honey.” Laura is taken into a bathroom in the back of the car, where her diaper is removed, she is wiped down, and a fresh diaper is taped on. “There you go! All clean!” The woman brings Laura back into the main area and sets her down near the toddler toys.
“You changed her?” Mason asks.
“Yep. Thanks for grabbing me. If babies or toddlers stay in a diaper that wet for too long, they can get a diaper rash.” The woman ruffles Mason’s hair. “Let me know if something else happens with her.” Mason nods. The woman leaves.
Once again, Laura is left to her own devices for the long train ride. But at least she’s in a clean diaper now.
