She was loving this island. She never wanted to leave.
Randy heard what sounded like a donkey in the distance, and he felt a stirring inside him.The wild side of Randy liked this girl. She was free, she had no care for rules. She lived in the moment. Evelyn ran off into the crowd of screaming kids, intent on getting to the next fun thing as quick as possible. Randy rushed to keep up.
As they reached another keg of beer, Randy did a double take. Evelyn had her back to him, and there was something strange about her ears. They were longer and wider than they should be, and covered in gray hair.
"Evelyneeeehaw." Randy called. Evelyn's ears twitched in surprise.
"Felt good didn't it? Now let’sgo!"Randy stopped. It did feel good. HAW-HEE-HAW. The sound in his mind returned again, this time louder than ever. He was almost let it out voluntarily.
He looked at Evelyn's ears. They were at least six inches long, covered in gray hair, and swiveled at will. The sight of these ears seemed to snap him out of his stupor, and he began to panic.
"Evelyn! Look at your ears!" He yelled.
Come to think of it he noticed a lot of strange things around the crowd of kids on the island. Most of them seemed to have some kind of change to their bodies and were beginning to panic just like him. Most, not all. Many kids were still running around having fun, oblivious to all else. One was even on their hands and knees eating grass, a conspicuous rope-like lump extending down his pant leg.
Evelyn just gave a high pitched laugh and pressed another beer into his hands.
"Dude, what are you worrying about? Let go!" A donkey trotted up to her, and she scratched it behind the ear.
Randy stared at the beer, then back at the donkey next to Evelyn. He remembered why he found this girl, she was free. Why was he trying to go back to how he was when he was with his family? Randy took a deep swing of his beer...and when he did he felt an immense pressure build up in his chest.
Unwilling and unable to hold it back any longer, he let it out.
"HEEEEEEE-hmmmmffff!" He covered his mouth as the feeling of the strange sound coming out of his throat snapped him out of his haze.
Suddenly seeing clearly, he examined Evelyn and her ears extend further above her head. With the reference of the donkey standing beside her, he saw the resemblance. Evelyn clearly had donkey ears.
He was terrified. "Evelyn! Feel your ears! You have donkey ears!"Evelyn felt her ears, but instead of panicking, she smiled. "Stop being so lame! There is nothing wrong with my ears. I thought you wanted to go wild??? What are you a momma's boy? Always wanting to follow the rules? Momma's boy!!! Momma's boy!!!" Evelyn taunted as she took another swing of beer.
Randy was indignant. "I am not a momma's boy!" "Haw haw haw!
"Momma's boy!" Evelyn continued. The donkey beside her gave a goofy grin at Randy and joined in, braying at him. At the sound, Evelyn's ears swiveled towards the donkey.
"He is a momma's boy, isn't he?" She asked the donkey. The animal brayed. "Thought so. Even this donkey thinks you are a momma's boy!"
"I am not!!!!" Randy yelled.
"Then prove it!" Evelyn scoffed. "You see anyone else here acting all stuck up like you?" Randy looked around the park. Indeed she was right. The panicking kids he saw early seemed to be gone. In their place were mobs of kidshaving the time of their lives.
He looked back at Evelyn and examined her furry gray ears. He shook his head. She had the ears of an animal! How was that fun? With his continued resistance, he felt the sense of responsibility
growing within him.
He felt the wild feeling inside of him receding. He needed to get Evelyn away from this place.
"Evelyn! Snap out of it! You...have...donkey...ears! You have the ears of an animal!!!" Randy yelled.
Once more Evelyn felt her ears. She smiled even wider this time, revealing blocky teeth. "My ears are normal! How about YOU snap out of it! You are the only one on the island not having fun, momma's boy!" She taunted again.
The juvenile jab got under Randy's skin. "For the last time! I amnot a momma's boy!""For the last time....prove....it!!! Have fun!"
