Juliet didn’t even realize that Clarisa was back. She still sat on the lower bed probing her own ears. They had grown as well but weren’t as big as Clarisa’s.
Was she changing like Clarisa? Could she stop it? She didn’t know. “Yeah..” Juliet said absently not even hearing what Clarisa had said as they left the room.
“So what do you think?” Clarisa asked as they headed out the hotel door into the sun.
Juliet couldn’t understand how Clarisa wasn’t afraid of what was happening to her, how she even could go on as if nothing happened at all?
“Don’t you think we should see a doctor about those?” Juliet asked pointing at Clarisa’s long twitching ears.
“They feel fine to me. Plus I can hear a lot better now. Anyways, I’m not the only one. Look.” Clarisa pointed around the park.
“What the...” Juliet couldn’t believe her eyes, Clarisa was right. She wasn’t the only one. She saw boys and girls running around with donkey ears of different lengths and as well as a few older teens, who looked like surfers.
She could have sworn something was straining against the back of their swimwear. Her mind was blown by the unreal scene that presented itself to her.
“What do you think is happening to us, Juliet?” Clarisa asked in wonder as she watched a bulge pulse in a girl’s shorts. Juliet remembered the little girl from the day before and the donkey that stood exactly at the same place this morning;
“No that’s a bad joke that can’t be....Clarisa someone is turning us into real asses!” She exclaimed as panic manifested itself.
“Really...I feel a bit dumber...but you know what? I’m having fun here! Who cares!?These feel good!” Clarisa rubbed her animal ears. “I kind of want more...”
“Stop it! Who knows what is making them grow! I don’t want to be an animal and neither do I want you to become one. Come on we have to get away from here!” She tried to drag Clarisa towards the gates.
“I’m not going. Think about it...do your ears hurt? I bet they feel good.”
“I don’t want to think about it, and even if they do I don’t want donkey ears!” But even with all the resistance Juliet put up the curse slowly worked on her and Clarisa could see the still short ears grow a tiny bit.
“So we go home, sit at the house for two days? Juliet, there are NO RULES here! Let’s go wild! You can deny it all you want. I know those ears feel good.”
“Rules, that’s it! Stick to the rules!” Juliet said happily; “If we behave we might change back!” She tried to persuade Clarisa.
“And if we behave we’ll just sit at home doing nothing while all these kids are out here having fun. Juliet, stop fooling around. We have the chance of a lifetime here to do whatever we want! Let’s have fun and think about all the kids stuck at school right now! Where is the gal who brayed with me in class?” Clarisa pleaded.
“The gal wasn’t in danger of becoming an animal!” Juliet tried again, and grabbed Clarisa at her right arm.
“If this was bad, it’d hurt. Look, one more day. For all we know this is just a gag of the park.”Juliet looked at her friend still nervous, watching the changing kids and teenagers. Then again Clarisa was her best friend since kindergarten. If she couldn’t convince her to leave maybe she could watch over her.
“Well ok, Clarisa, I was thinking of going to the beach. What do you think?”
“For a bit, but then I wanna break some things. There was a big mansion that said open for destruction.” Clarisa grabbed a beer from a nearby keg and downed it in one gulp.
She felt a tickling under her ears as the brown fur spread out from the roots of her ears a bit. “What’s it gonna take to get you to drink with me buddy?”
“I’d rather not let’s take something else, I have a bad feeling about that beer!” Julie treplied as she saw the hair sprout at the base of Clarisa’s ears.
Without warning, Clarisa grabbed a mug and grabbed Juliet. She pressed it to Juliet’s lips and she got some in her mouth. “Swallow. I know it tastes good!”Juliet gulped down two sips before she managed to wrestle Clarisa away, feeling her ears tingle as well as a mild pressure at the small of her back.
“Why would you do that!?!”, asked Juliet.
“Because you need to unwind.” Clarisa smiled as she saw Juliet’s ears visibly pushing through her hair. She gave a slight moan as she felt a surge run through her back and leave her with an itch at the base of her spine.
“You can’t fool me, Juliet. You are smiling. I know you enjoyed that beer.”
“Think what you want. ” Juliet answered, “Let’s get you to that damn house not in the mood to go to the beach anymore.”
“Really? Why not? You were set on it a minute ago.” Clarisa said.
Maybe Juliet was coming around.“Because I know you, you would bug me every five minutes about it I rather get over with it. We can still go later.”
