There was a change in the temperature of the pond, and the light lasted longer and was more intense. The ice had melted. Deep at the bottom of the pond, Jeff belched, and stirred. Long immobile muscles twitched stirring up a cloud of silt on the floor of the pond. Jeff's stomach grumbled. His mind was cloudy with months of dreaming, as he kicked off the floor of the pond and slowly swam to the now liquid surface. Cold air startled him into wakefulness as his head broke the surface, he blinked closing his transparent eyelid against the sun's uv reach rays. A starling flittered by and instinctively Jeff shot his tongue out at the flying creature, and devoured it whole in his new wider mouth. The bird squawked as it was crushed in Jeff's powerful jaws.
"Hey, sleepy head! Are you going to come in now?" Jeff's mother called from the back porch. Thanks to the Chronivac, she accepted Jeff's new nature as normal.
"Hey, mom! Nah, I think I'll swim for a bit first. I'm kinda stiff from hibernating!" Jeff shouted back and began using his giant frong body to swim across the pond.
Hibernating? thought Jeff. His memories starting to clear. Yes, it had to be the chronivac. Well, who said the perfect swimmer had to be human.
Back in his room, the Chronivac came to life and the words RESUMING OPERATION glowed ominously on the screen.
