Layla picked up her smartphone and called her best dog(as opposed to human) friend. "Hey, Miranda..." she said. "Is that Jeff barking in the background?"
"Yeah, I was just about to take him for his w-a-l-k..I can't even say the word...he'd be pulling on the leash again. Thank goodness he can't spell," Miranda said.
"Maybe I'll stop by after...I'd bring Cindy....but Jeff is entirely too big for her to play with. I just wanted to ask if you could bring back that book I loaned you. I need it for my class."
"If you don't come over, I'll bring it to school tomorrow," the other teen told her.
Miranda hung up and looked down at her human. "Come on, boy...let's go..." She started outside.

Megan, in her soccer uniform, was heading out the door to meet her mother. "Mom...Jeff got some new computer stuff and it was weird, and he locked himself in his room."
Sherry, Jeff's mother sighed. "I'll have to talk to him later," she said. "Let's get you to practice." The girl climbed into the car and while Jeff was trying to craft the settings for his program, drove the short distance. Sherry parked the car and the two got out. Sherry leaned down to give her daughter a quick goodbye..and they heard an odd sound.
It disoriented both of them, and they stumbled away from each other in opposite directions...Sherry's hair began to grow down her back, long and wild...as if untended to. Her nose suddenly switched...and she went off in the direction of what she smelled.
