Before they can escape, they hear a voice speak behind them.
“What are you two doing?” Kaitlin and Laura turn around. A daycare employee stands before them, arms crossed. “We’re not going to have any jailbreaks today, okay, little girls?”
“But-” Kaitlin starts.
“No buts.” The employee picks Laura and Kaitlin up and brings them over to a playpen. “If you try to get out during naptime, you have to have naptime in the baby jail.”
“But-” Kaitlin tries again. The employee pops a pacifier into her mouth. Kaitlin instinctively sucks on it.
“Sorry, but you two will be staying in baby jail until the end of the day. And we’ll have to tell your parents that you tried to escape.” The employee walks away, muttering softly. Kaitlin turns to Laura.
“No thcape,” Kaitlin croaks around her pacifier. Laura merely nods. “What now?” Laura yawns widely. “No thleep. Make plan!” Despite Kaitlin’s protests, Laura falls back asleep. Kaitlin sucks on her pacifier, her mind racing. After a few moments, she realizes that she can’t escape now. She’ll have to wait for an opportunity later. Like Laura, she curls up on the floor of the playpen and sleeps.
