THURSDAY - (AM)
Peter and Lauren awoke early the next morning, their faces resting on their keyboards. They rubbed their heads, groaning as they slowly began to remember why they were there, though the second they looked at their screens it was obvious. They had barely managed to find any information relating to the fair whatsoever, just the fact that one had occurred. For that day they decided to head back to the fair ground in an attempt to locate clues.
Before they go they decide to head through the shower. Soon Peter is ready and Lauren is not far behind. As she dry's herself off she looks in the mirror, noticing something strange.
Her ears were normal. Her heart leapt, she thought they were gone! Lauren shot her hands up and felt them and then her heart came thundering down. She could still feel them. They were physically still there, just seemingly invisible to reflections.
"Peter!" She shouts as she continues looking in the mirror. He came running as fast as he could, opening the door as she stood there partially naked.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"The reflection, look, my ears are normal." She said. He walked further in, looking at their small bathroom mirror in amazement.
"Well would you look at that." He said.
"So how do you explain that?"
"I guess it's to stop people noticing? She must have done this before, there's a reason why she was never caught. The mirror thing must stop photographs. So I'm willing to bet that we can walk around outside with little consequence."
"Well we're going to have to if we want to make it to the gypsy."
After waiting for Lauren to get dressed the pair hesitantly ventured outside. As they turn their heads they spot someone walking down the street. Their hearts began beating faster as the random stranger approached. Soon he was right next to them, saying hello before passing them by, as if nothing were wrong. He didn't once glance at Peter's tail or Lauren's ears, both of which were completely visible.
"I guess that settles it then" Peter says. They then got into their car and began the drive to the fairground. They arrived just before midday only to find the lot predictably empty.
"Just, look around. Maybe there is something here." Lauren suggested. The pair split up, looking everywhere for even just a flyer, though the field looked as if it had been cleaned immaculately. No matter how finely they combed the grass nothing was turning up. Never one to give up so easily, Peter spotted a nearby dumpster. Looking around to make sure nobody was watching he jumped head first into the rubbish.
After what seemed like an eternity he emerged grasping something. A flier advertising the fair! It had the name of the fair as well as the names of the towns they were visiting, though the announced dates only went up until last week.
"Damn!" He exclaimed. "Well it's a start I guess..." He got out of the trash and brushed himself off, before turning around and looking for Lauren. He spotted her across the field, dashing towards her to deliver what little good news he had. He was completely out of breath when he arrived; instead he just held the flier in his outstretched hand as Lauren took it from him.
"Shit. We were so close too... So what do we do know?" Lauren asked after she had finished reading it and Peter had finished catching his breath.
"We'll have to go around ticket agencies, show them the flier and hope they have an updated one they could give us."
"Okay good plan!" Lauren says, before looking at her phone. "But by the time we get back into town they'll be all shut." She says, losing all of her enthusiasm.
"Well, we'll... just have to wait until tomorrow." He says. Seemingly defeated the pair goes back to their car and begins the long and depressing ride home, they had accomplished little in that day and who knew how far away the travelling carnival was. It was a very silent ride home. The sun had long since set as they pulled into their drive, their headlight illuminated the empty streets. With a careless slam of the car doors the pair wandered inside and slumped down onto their beds.
