Jake wasn't really ready for anyone else to know he had this power, and he wasn't ready to share it with his roommate either. Leon was nosy and always had to be at the center of things, so by the end of the day he would surely have his whole frat in here changing each other and showing off the device. Word would be all over campus about the Chronivac, and who knows what would happen after that.
Leon's ears turned toward the sound of Jake typing on the laptop. "Making some more changes to yourself?" he asked curiously.
"Not to myself, no," replied Jake.
"Ooh, making more changes on campus? Then we can take credit for them and be the most popular dudes here!"
Jake glared at Leon. "No, Leon. This device is my little secret. That's why I have to get you out of the picture."
Leon flattened his ears and looked pleadingly at Jake. "You wouldn't... I mean, we're friends, right? ... You don't want to k-"
"No, Leon, I'm not going to kill you--don't be silly! I'm only taking what's left of your humanity."
Leon didn't like the sound of that last part. "Look, Jake, I'm sorry I started snooping around on your computer. I promise I won't tell anything. We're roommates! We can enjoy the device together. No one needs to know..."
"No worries, buddy, you've been a wonderful roommate, and I'm sure you'll be a wonderful fox. You've already got the process started yourself! And it's not like you'll remember your human life anyway."
"Jake, no!" Leon's tail started thrashing as Jake went to click on the final confirmation button. It was too late! A tingle ran down his arms and black fur started to sprout from them. His finger thickened up and black pads puffed up underneath them. Thick pointed nails came out of the ends; he was growing claws. Off-white fur sprouted all the way down his chest, and reality really started to sink in. Leon wasn't just going to get the fun parts of being a fox: he was going to get the whole package!
"Come on, Jake, we can work something out! I'll... I'll clean our room for a month, I'll never touch the device again! I'll..."
Orange fur grew from his back and from his sides, and it was getting harder to stand upright. Jake watched all the changes with deep interest as he was impressed with what the Chronivac could do. He didn't bother speaking to Leon anymore, as there was no point trying to converse with a wild animal (or someone who was going to be one in a few seconds anyway).
Leon felt his feet stretching out, saw them turning black, and moaned as his new hindpaws formed on the ends. He finally gave in and dropped to all fours as the pressure in his nose and mouth started. An orange and white muzzle with black whiskers on both sides became his new face, and he was starting to have trouble remembering what exactly was the problem with that. He started sniffing around the room trying to piece together why this place was so familiar and why the human presence in the room wasn't scary to him until a few moments ago.
So now there was a complete fox in the room, and Jake had set the Chronivac to alter reality so that Leon had always been a fox and had a species-appropriate habitat somewhere else. The fox that had been Leon suddenly vanished and was no longer in the room. Jake didn't put much thought into where he had gone--presumably deep out in a forest somewhere. Anyway, with Leon out of the way, it was time to sit back down at the Chronivac and see what else he could change.
