Geography. Most students took it for the easy A, but Kelly legitimately enjoyed learning about different countries and cultures. The bell rang. The teacher, Mr. Stone, walked into the classroom.
“Okay, students, open to page 321 while I get Kelly set up,” he instructed everyone. There was rummaging and rustling as Kelly’s classmates got out their textbooks and opened them. Mr. Stone came over to Kelly’s playpen and picked her up, as well as her playpen. As one of the teachers employed for the longest, he had his own, small office attached to the classroom. Kelly was brought into this office and set back in the playpen.
“What’s going on?” Kelly asked.
“Today, you’ll be watching Dora the Explorer,” Mr. Stone said in a tired voice, turning on the old TV cart in front of Kelly’s playpen. He sighed. “I hate that your parents insisted on dumbing down the curriculum for you. You had such great potential in geography.” Mr. Stone put a baby monitor in the crib. “Turn this on and speak up if you need anything. For now, enjoy the show.” Mr. Stone turned on the TV and left, dimming the lights slightly and closing the door.
Kelly’s heart sunk. She’d lost her boyfriend, her potty training, and even her favorite class. What could she even do?
