A Game of Change

Coincidence?

added 18 years ago O

A brief lull in the conversation prompted a discussion as to what the should get on and do next.
"Well I've got the DVD that Sue got me," said Hannah, "Although It may be a bit to intellectual for this evening."
"How about the game," suggested Terry, "we may as well give it a go."
Sue rolled her eyes and looked arround for support, but was surprised to find that everyone seemed to agree with Terry's suggestion.

Shortly the game was set up, Terry couldn't find the rule book, but everything looked fairly self explanitory. A pack of cards stood in the centre of the board and the counters were placed on a square shaped like a door and marked start. A maze of squares formed passages which weaved inwards to a lamp in the centre of the board. A number of doors blocked squares on the map and presumably these could be opened by collecting keys from squares marked with a key. The other squares were slightly more difficult to interperate, although Dave eventualy figured out that they instructed you to pick up a card, and then either play it on yourself, or, if instructed by the square, on another player.

Dave picked up the dice to go first, and the other playes placed their counters on the start. He rolled a three, and began to move towards the nearest key square, landing on a card square in the process. He picked it up and began to read it to the group:

The gmae as started,
You are all involved,
None may leave,
Until the game is solved.

"Did you shuffle these cards?" Asked Dave, looking at Tom. "Yeah. Well thats a lucky co-incidence."
"And it probably means we've done something wrong. There may be other 'special' cards. Did you check the rules?"
"There are none remember" "Well, thats odd, because I wonder what that is." Said dave, pointing at a booklett wedged in the bottom of the bok. Tom picked up the booklett and began to read, his face quickly bearing a frown. "This doesn't make sense," he said, rapidly flipping through the pages and reading extracts. "Oh come one! I thought you were meant to be inteligent," Said Terry, grabbing for the book. Tom pulled away, "No, I can read it fine. But the rules, I just don't see how they work. It doesn't make sense." "Let me see," suggested Terry, as the two of the began to look through the rule-book together.
