Jezebel resolves that, as much as she was enjoying getting her life back together, she needs to go investigate that weird library. Maybe that Avery person will have some answers or some other interesting books! Jezebel, fully dressed now, slides open the sliding glass door to the foggy evening in her seaside town. Buses are still running and her pass, with a cuter than average official photo, gets her a ride quickly.
On the ride she smiles at a man with no face and a pair of dogs dressed in human clothes, thinking nothing of them. It isn't until she flipped open her phone and seesa message from her friend Leah that something shakes free in her head. These things, they aren't normal. Before this evening with the library, she would have been shocked by them. But now she, and everyone else is treating them as if they are no stranger than a new hat.
No matter how hard she tries to care or worry, she simply can't bring herself to think of these things as anything more than normal. But that feeling, the lack of inquisitiveness is as alien to Jezebel Starr as it had been to James. So she focuses on that. What is making people ignore these mysteries?
The bus rolls to a stop and Jezebel hops off, looking over at the big modern library looming over the street. She adjusts her blouse and swallows slightly, looking at the dark building. Walking up the gleaming marble stairs she sees a closed sign and frowns. "Drat," she says, in her new more delicate voice.
