Emile had to blink his eyes a few times as the bright flash had temporarily blinded him. He rubbed his eyes before blinking them a few times as his sight returned.
"Ow, geez mom, why'd I have to take the selfie again?" He asked his mother.
Rebecca laughed.
"Oh come now Emile, you're my big strong boy now, and you're the tallest so it just had to be you." She explained, brushing her curly red locks past her shoulder. "Now, give it to Mommy I wanna see how it turned out."
"Wait Mommy!" Paula cried. "Let me see let me see!" She begged.
"Now now Paula, wait your turn sweetie." Oliver scolded.
Paula huffed which caused Emile to snicker. Rebecca just rolled her eyes, figuring kids would be kids. She looked at the photo and was extremely happy with the picture quality, but less so with her family. Her handsome, beefy husband Oliver was making a goofy face, trying to get 6 year old Paula to smile right. Paula was yanking on her pigtails, clearly annoyed at having a big flash in her eyes. Emile was the best in shot, but his teenaged attitude shined through with a monotone expression, and Rebecca was almost out of frame entirely!
"Is it too hard to ask to just have a normal family photo!?" She huffed, angrily placing the camera on the table before storming off for the second floor.
"What's bugging her?" Emile scoffed once she was out of earshot.
"It's this picture Emile!" Oliver groaned, showing his son the obviously bad photo. "This family always seems to have trouble when it comes time to take good group photo's, your mother is probably just frustrated." He explained before walking up after his wife, leaving Emile and Paula behind with the camera. He figured maybe some... fun time... would get his wife feeling better.
"I coulda taken a good pic-er for Mommy." Paula whined, playing with her golden pigtails. "Why'd she have to let a stupid boy do it?" She grumbled.
"First of all, it's picture Paula, not pic-er. Secondly, I'm the tallest, and I'm 14 now... way older than you stupid." Emile sneered, brushing his bangs aside.
"So?!" Paula yelled.
"It means I'm more responsible!" He proudly answered.
"Then we'd you screw it up stupid head?" Paula replied, sticking her tongue out at her older brother.
Emile's face started to turn red, and as such quickly turned away from Paula and retorted as he walked off.
"Yeah, well... It's old and garbage! You try to use it if you think you're so good you stupid baby." Emile sneered as he walked through the back door and toward the garage.
"I am not a baby." Paula mumbled under her breath. She looked up at the table in thought. "I could take a better pic-er for Mommy." She thought to herself. She reached for the camera on her tippy toes of her mary-janes, but quickly found she was too short. After checking to make sure the coast was clear, she climbed up the chair onto the table and snatched the polaroid.
"I can do this! I'm not a baby." She thought with a smile, staring at the odd camera.
