"I know how these work." Paula thought, holding the bulky camera precariously. "I just gotta hit this."
Paula then switched the controls for awareness, witching from "All unaware" to "User aware" and as such, suddenly dropped the camera. Her head spin, as suddenly decades of memories flooded his mind. His? Wasn't she a girl? "Wh-who? What?" Paul thought, completely disoriented.
Paul finally managed to refocus his vision, and found himself staring up at a large table, twice his height! He wondered for a moment why someone would make a table so large. He reached out to try and touch it, and his jaw dropped the second he saw how tiny his hand was. He lowered it to see it closer, and saw much worse.
He was wearing a purple dress, mary-janes, and some nail polish. His body looked like that of a childs! He stumbled over to the nearest mirror, almost tripping over his dress twice, and gasped at his reflection. What stared back was a little girl, no older than 5 or 6. She had adorable blonde hair tied into pigtails, cute little dimples and a purple bow on one side to match.
She looked a lot like Paul did as a child, almost identical in fact if it wasn't for the female part. If Paul didn't know any better and had seen her in a photo from his child hood he would assume she was his long lost sister or something. Of course, Paul realized the situation he was in. He was that little girl.
"How did this happen?" He silently gasped, completely shocked at how cute he now sounded. "I- I remember being myself, at home with Olivia, and Emily and her boyfriend were outside... then everything changed! I was at a job or something, but I remember a different family, a trailer park!? None of this makes sense." He wondered aloud.
"I also remember living a life like my own but.... ugh, my own daughter was my wife?!" He groaned. "Wait, that's it! That's when it changed! That camera!" He realized, turning to see the polaroid laying where he dropped it on the floor.
Paul ran over, nearly tripping once more, and lifted the camera. It seemed like some old camera, but it clearly had something to do with the world changing around him. But, why was he the only one who now realized? He glanced outside and saw Emile, or what should be his sweet girl Emily, angrily fixing a bike in the garage.
"I guess I'm the only one." Paul thought sadly. "Emile's not even gonna listen if I tell him, he never trusts me... I mean Paula! I mean... argh! I know who I am but I have these stupid memories from this life too!" He groaned. "I can't even curse now because of this poopy head camera!"
He looked over the camera, but soon realized just how screwed he was. Since he was a 6 year old girl, he could no longer read properly! He tried to figure out which button could reverse everything, but found he could only read basic words here and there. The only button he could be sure of was the main button, which he figured was why everyone who was changing randomly.
"I didn't change till Emily took a picture with me in it, but they changed before and I just had a different life, not body." Paul speculated. "It's probably what caused this... but I don't know if I can trust this! What if we change even worse? What if I change myself and I forget again? I don't wanna be a little girl!" Paul began to cry.
His new emotions took the best of him, and he had to take a minute to calm himself down. After a few sniffles, his adorable face hardened with determination.
"No, I will fix my family. I will fix the world, even if it stinking changes me."
