CYOTF (Animal)

First flight!

added 3 years ago A Mental Avian

"Oh man, I can like actually fly!" he this has he soars through the air. This is amazing! How to flap his wings and hold his tail just right to stabilize himself has come quite naturally to him with only a small amount of experimentation. He has been mildly afraid of heights as a man, but that doesn't seem to apply in this new form. It's thrilling to feel the air rush through his feathers and watch the ground speed by underneath him. Archie feels great!

He is also amazed by how well he can see around him. He has a really wide field of view and a very crisp image of even small things far below him. He is also seeing colors he couldn't explain even if he could still talk. Everything is more vivid, more real, than it could have ever been as a human. And yet it is all so far outside of his experience that it almost feels like a dream.

The former human lands in a tree almost two miles away from his house, amazed at how easily he has grabbed onto the branch with his new bird feet. Flying has really taken a lot out of him; he is hungry and wonders what he should eat now as a bird. Another new instinct answers him sooner than he expected: he notices that this tree has dropped numerous berries and that other birds of different species are pecking at them. He realizes how much he wanted to eat some of them, too. Archie glides down onto the ground, hops over toward one of the berries and takes it up into his beak. It moves down his throat and feels so satisfying back there in his digestive tract. He hops some more and eats another. He flutters his wings and chirped in joy.

"I'm so glad I became a bird," he thinks. "I wanna fly even more soon!"

Archie doesn't know that these berries would have been lethally poisonous to him if he were still human. He also hasn't discovered yet that his lifespan has been dramatically shortened, but who's to say how long he would have actually lived had he remained a human anyway? Nevertheless, if he ever turns back into a human, he may find himself far older than he expects to be. It's really hard to say what the mysterious magics have in store for him however. For now, Archie's priority is just to get used to being a bird. And so far he is really enthusiastic to do that.
