“We are reading story books to the kindergarteners, this should be easy.” Josh announced to the group. He looked at Noah. “Let’s make sure we pick every Teddy Bear story there is.” Josh was clearly seizing this opportunity for free marks.
“Yeah I have an idea too, let’s have the Teddy Bear be a surprise.” Trevor said he was in a good mood and wanted to see how Noah reacted.
Noah looked around and realised he is going to need to play up his part of a stuffed bear. “Yeah if it’s a surprise they will be more excited to hear the stories.” Noah also just realised he agreed to do all the reading and work, for some reason this was still less embarrassing than explaining the real reason for the stupid costume.
Trevor smiled and picked up Noah. “I’ll carry you in and place you beside the presentation and then you can start reading the book. Just pretend to be a stuffed bear for now.”
Noah hated this part, being treated like a toy was the worst part of the whole experience. He kept quiet and let Trevor carry him.
The boys went to the kindergarten class and knocked on the door. The young teacher answered and introduced them to the class. “Everyone, the special surprise I promised for you is here. We have some older students from other school here to read to you today. Please be on your best behaviour.”
All the students were looking at them.
“Hi I’m Josh!” Josh exclaimed.
“Carlos” Carlos mentioned casually.
“My name is Trevor and our stuffed friend here is Noah, he will help read to you today.”
The kids started laughing and cheering, they were pretty excited to be taught by ‘big kids’.
Trevor walked over to the book shelf and scanned for a book with teddy bears in it. “Ah the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, perfect and a classic.”
The three setup chairs for them in the reading circle and placed Noah on the ground in front of them. Trevor then opened the book and placed it in Noah’s lap.
“Okay kids gather round, Noah is going to read to you about Teddy Bears, no better expert.”
Noah was getting embarrassed again, he didn’t realise how good Trevor was at hyping something up. The kids were confused; they were looking at Noah waiting for something to happen.
Noah started to read the book out loud.
One of the kids shouted “The bear is real!”
“Wow, is it a costume?” Another shouted.
Josh and Carlos were trying to calm the class down while Trevor turned the pages and held up the book for others to see the pictures. Overall the kids found the whole presentation extremely fun and amusing. Noah on the other hand was getting embarrassed.
They read throughout the morning and the teacher thanked them for such a wonderful morning.
