Even if it felt a little odd to "sell" living beings like harpies, the extra money and the curiosity towards magic made the choice a lot easier.
"Let's go the wizards."
"Okay."
Pete set his rickety old cart in motion and slowly they left the farm behind.
"Hey, this is the way back to the city. Where do the wizards live?"
"Theys lives in thes tower in town."
"Tower?" Alec looked at town again, he didn't remember seeing any towers other than the clock tower and from here he still didn't see any towers. "Do they live in the clock tower?"
Pete laughed, he sure was in a good mood with the harpies taken care off. "Yous reallys not from around heres. You'll sees."
The trip back to town was shorter in the cart, though it took some time to reach the real destination. Meanwhile Pete was quite talkative as he told the entire story of how he inherited the farm from the previous owner after he mysteriously died. Pete wasn't the only one who worked there though, he had some extra hands.
The story was pretty boring, but Alec feigned interest.
"Heres wes ares." The cart stopped at a small round building. Small simple windows decorated the front and a simple wooden front door was opened wide. The building looked dull, like any other building. Hardly the tower Alec expected.
Alec jumped off the cart and looked up. "What the fuck." The small round building seemed to stretch out into the sky. Large lead in glass windows dottered the side. Huge stone gargoyles stared down from the parapets. Their large wings and sharp claws outstretched giving the idea that they were just waiting to pounce on him.
He looked back in front, but now the building was short and boring again. He looked back up again and there was the imposing tower again.
"Is hates that trick. Gives mes vertigos." Pete grumbled as he got off the cart as well.
A man come walking out of the front door. He had a long white hair, but no beard. He was dressed in some simple jeans and a pink shirt with some bright gold stars. Even if it wasn't a dress with a pointy hat, wizards seemed to lack common dress sense no matter what world. Alec thought.
"Hello, how can I...oh my." The man said as he saw the angry harpies on the cart.
"I'll fuck you up!" One of the harpies screeched. "Can I interest you in a threesome?" The other said in a moan.
Alec jumped in. "Pete told me you would like some harpies?"
The man looked at Alec and raised an eyebrow. "You? Caught these harpies?"
"Yes."
The man looked at Pete who just shrugged and nodded.
"Well in that case, come in." The man grabbed Alecs hand and shook it. "I'm Merdin. I'll get some people to offload the cart."
"I'll stays out heres until they'res gones. Then I'm leaving back tos thes farm. I'll report thes mission to thes guild first ofcourses."
"Thanks Pete, see you around."
"Thank yous."
Alec followed Merdin inside. The inside was a lot more modern and a lot larger than he had expected. There were a lot of people walking around inside, showing each other various items. From wands to, some weird stuff Alec didn't recognize. They made their way across the floor and towards a pair of counters. Behind which was a large painting of a dragon and a wizard in combat.
"Can anyone become a wizard?"
"No, you need a special kind of power for that."
Merdin took a seat behind a large counter, a hologram activated the moment he sat down and he pulled up some paperwork. "Do you have experience in delivering magical creatures to the wizards guild?"
"No." Alec said as he stared the large painting.
"Okay, so the Wizards guild has a set going rate for every creature depending on their state. Your harpies were very clearly adults. They looked a bit bruised, but were very...shall we say lively." Merdins voice trailed off as he scanned through a hologram.
"That's 100 silver per harpy."
"I'm not from around here, but that sounds like a lot?"
"I can't judge that for you. Do you agree to our terms?"
"What terms?"
"You give us the harpies, we give you 200 silver. We shake hands, you leave."
"What are you going to do with them?"
"Magic isn't just waving sticks and setting things on fire, it's also research. Besides, fresh harpy feathers and talons are rare ingredients."
"You're going to kill them?" Alecs eyes went wide.
"We will try and keep them alive in our bestiary obviously. Now, about that deal."
Alec hesitated for a moment, but nodded.
"Okay then. I don't think you have an adventurers license. So if you..."
Alec pulled out his card. "Here."
Merdin barely paused, he took the card and swiped it. "There we go, all set." He handed the card back.
"Do you sell stuff here as well?"
"Nothing that would help you. You might want to try the blacksmith or the farmers market."
Alec turned and walked towards the exit. He clutched his card, he had money now. He could go to the blacksmith and get some proper equipment. Swords, weapons and probably some protection. He would be a lot more impressive this way, he could try a more difficult mission. He smiled, his power was pretty great. He could imagine crawling up to a dragon, taking possession of it and then eradicating entire villages. But his own body stayed behind defenseless, so that was a problem. An adventurers group would help with that, so maybe hooking up would be better.
He thought back to his experience as a harpy. Taking over a body wasn't that easy, it felt completely different from his own body. Maybe he needed some practice first, try and find some limits as well.
Alec reached the door, but just as he was about to walk outside a girl came walking in, dressed in form fitting leather. Short blue hair and sharp facial lines. His eyes darted up and down. Nice tits.
