It’s mom, sticking a finger down the back of her diaper.
“Hmm. Wet,” mom announces loudly. Jess’s eyes boggle. She’s not wet! She hasn’t even had the urge to pee!”
“No, I’m not!” Jess protests.
“It’s okay, sweetie, potty training is difficult,” mom says, continuing to speak in a carrying voice. “And it can be tough for little girls your age to tell when you’ve gone peepee. But you need to be changed before you get a rash!”
Ignoring Jess’s continued protests, mom brings her into the bathroom, where she sets Jess down on the changing table. Jess crosses her arms.
“I’m not wet, mom,” she says firmly.
“Oh, I know you’re not,” mom replies. “But after you humiliated your brother, you deserve some humiliation yourself. And I’m going to bring you back out and change you whether your diaper is dirty or not.” Jess pales. “Do you need to go?”
“…Yes,” Jess mumbles, suddenly alerted to a growing pressure in her bladder and bowels.
“Then go. Right now. In your diaper.”
“But-”
“If you don’t go now, you’ll have to deal with two public diaper changes, not to mention having an accident in public as well. Do you want that?” mom asks. Jess swallows and weighs her options.
