Jennifer’s celebration is short-lived. Gideon gets fed up with parenting her without being a parent, and quits. His resignation is sudden. One day, he doesn’t come to pick her up from work. Jennifer sits in the playpen they have for her on the set, waiting for someone to take care of her. She’s three, she can’t do anything for herself.
Luckily, one of her co-stars notices Jennifer waiting for Gideon to come, and when no one arrives to take care of Jennifer, takes over. The co-star, Lissa, brings Jennifer to her house. Apparently, Lissa has a three-year-old daughter named Ruby. Jennifer and Ruby play together as Lissa makes phone call after phone call, trying to track down Gideon.
Eventually, Lissa asks Jennifer if she knows a phone number to call. Jennifer provides the phone number of the clinic. Lissa leaves the room to make the call. When she returns, she’s beaming.
“What happen?” Jennifer asks. She feels the urge to pee and, without thinking about it, does just that. Her diaper, visible because she’s not wearing anything else, turns yellow.
“Well, Jennifer, the nice people I spoke to said that your guardian will be at set tomorrow to take care of you. There must have been some mix-up in your adoption.” Lissa eyes Jennifer’s yellowed diaper. “Do you need to make poopoo, too?” Lissa’s question alerts Jennifer to a growing pressure in her bowels. She nods urgently. Lissa takes her to the bathroom, where a toddler training potty is set up.
Jennifer doesn’t really enjoy the fact that Lissa stayed to watch her use the potty, but she’s glad to have that as an option. Gideon didn’t bother getting a training potty, even though Jennifer didn’t need to use a diaper for number two. Now that she thinks about it, it might be nice to stay with Lissa, especially if she gets told the truth.
Jennifer enjoys her sleepover at Lissa’s place, and in the morning, Lissa dresses Jennifer in some of Ruby’s clothes and brings her to the set. Jennifer looks around, wondering who her new guardian is.
