Unfortunately for Jennifer’s attempt to finally get an acting role, the show doesn’t go into production. Gideon gets the phone call shortly after the audition. When he informs Jennifer of the issue, she has her first proper toddler temper tantrum.
At first, Gideon puts Jennifer in more auditions, but none of them pan out. He eventually puts her in a daycare, telling her that he needs someone else to supervise her at times, so that he can focus on finding auditions for her. The continued failed auditions gradually make him less and less invested in Jennifer as a client, and more invested in her as a daughter.
Jennifer doesn’t realize just how bad it’s become until one day, Gideon picks her up from daycare beaming.
“Good news, Jenny,” he coos. Jennifer scowls. She doesn’t like the nickname he calls her by now. “The adoption papers are all filled out. You’re officially no longer my client, you’re my daughter!” Jennifer’s mouth drops open.
“What?” she squeaks.
“You weren’t getting any roles, so I knew I had to drop you as a client. But I couldn’t let a little girl like you get lost in the system.”
“But-”
“No daughter of mine is going to be a child actress,” Gideon continues. Jennifer’s heart plummets. “You won’t be going on any more auditions. But you can still come to the auditions of my other clients. Now that you’re my daughter, not my client, I can start my job up again. Oh, and do you want to hear the best part?”
“What?” Jennifer growls.
“I can work from home easier now, so you don’t have to go to daycare as much. You get to spend time with daddy!”
Jennifer knows that she won’t ever call Gideon “daddy”. Being an actress was why she put herself through all this. How could it have fallen apart so fast? Simmering, Jennifer plans her revenge.
