In the new reality, Jamie had set this up to have been initiated immediately after Jack died, but didn't allow her tampering of Jack to instantly change Jeff, instead the remaining 2 years will do that as Jeff absorbs his dad's prominent mental and physical characteristics as Jamie set them up to be.
Jeff never made plans for Wednesday evenings or weekends. He was excused from larger assignments due to his standing medical condition causing him "extended unconsciousness." He was a celebrity among the medical community but his identity was protected and he and his mother had maintained the secret of Jack's continued presence in Jeff's life. Kids can be cruel to begin with, no sense in asking for the freak designation, or worse yet, drawing animosity from other children who lost a parent and weren't blessed enough to be the first family to try the Extended Life procedure.
Jeff went into the procedure knowing he would get to talk to his dad again and if he allowed the transformation, it would let his dad help his mom around the house every once in a while. Despite everyone's advise against it, 13 year old Jeff insisted Dad have control all weekend, expecting that it would release him from weekend chores and large homework assignments, which it did.
Jeff and Jamie were also aware that this would be temporary, lasting a maximum of 10 years if no transformation were involved. But that seemed to have more lasting mental impacts on the subjects as there is no differentiation of the identity. Though only animal testing had been done so far, some feared a mental connection only could leave Jeff by age 23, thinking he is a 50 year old Jack trapped in his son's body, not to mention Jeff as Jack would probably become romantically attracted to his mother specifically.
On the other hand, a physical transformation lasting 6 or 7 days a week would leave less than a year until Jack mentally disappeared, but the effects on Jeff's body would leave him as an early to mid 30 year old with the mentality of a 13 year old.
Jamie didn't remember these details because she maintained her original mentality but Jeff did and Jack was initially upset with Jamie for allowing this to be done to their son, but as their 13 year old became 14, then 15, and now 16 with no apparent side effects whatsoever, this aspect of the procedure was long forgotten.
Jamie had noticed with glee after the first transformation that Jeff was just the tiniest bit more mindful about his surroundings. Replacing the spent toilet paper roll, rinsing his dishes off before leaving them in the sink, and she wasn't sure, but maybe, just maybe, Jeff used the toilet scrubber after using the bathroom...
A month and a half went by like the blink of an eye. To Jamie, it was magic, to Jeff and Jack everything seemed like what they called normal over the last few years.
As time continued to pass Jamie began to notice money was getting tighter and tighter. Going out with her husband was never a second thought but that was when they both were holding down a job.
Jeff began taking responsibility over his surroundings more and more each transformation, the Chronivac trying to make up for the last 3 years of mental and physical transformations that hadn't been applied. Jeff didn't even notice as he went from planning on playing video games after school to planning on making use of the daylight and doing some tree trimming, or raking leaves, or one of the countless other chores that no longer seemed right to leave to his mother. At school his friends began to seem more dramatic and immature than he ever noticed them to be before and it became tiresome listening to their complaints about siblings or parents. Jeff retreated mentally into conversations with his dad finding it more stimulating.
Jeff hit a growth spurt as his body took on some of his father's new characteristics. Not only did Jamie's changes modify Jeff's genetic potential but after each transformation the reversion process didn't seem to take him back 100% to the original Jeff. The first few transformation cycles were easy to dismiss any changes, a slight reduction in baby fat with the weight replaced with a pound of muscle across Jeff's body. But as the changes continued to accumulate it became more and more obvious that the impact of carrying Jack was finally taking its toll. One Thursday morning Jeff's morning routine was interrupted when he realized he needed to shave and his shirt was too short for him.
