As you progressed through the streets, you saw more and more evidence of the relentless tidal wave passing through the city. Collapsed buildings, craters in the paved roads and countless corpses, civilian and military, lying there and there. You couldn't help but feel lucky that you got through that storm underground and that the roof hadn't fallen on you.
A deep howl echoes in the distance and you can't help but be alert. Holding the iron pipe that you had found lying while you made the trip and that now served you as a weapon. You had heard more of those beasts, from afar. For unknown reasons, those things had been kept at a safe distance from that street so it seemed that you had earned a little respite.
You heard a groan to your left. Like a lightning bolt you raised the pipe again, launched and you returned to the origin of the sound.
A woman limped out of the ruins, African-American, with messy hair, her skin and clothing covered in dust. She has wound covered by bandages on her right leg.
"Are you okay?" You asked her.
"The cannonade ... almost left me deaf and then the sound of footsteps ... I don't know how I'm still alive ..."It was clear that this woman was very affected by the situation. Looking slightly behind you wonder if she is alone.
"Is there someone else with you?" You looked behind her.
"No" seems to have come out of her stupor and looks you in the eyes "I was looking for food to take back to the hospital bunker. That news surprises you".
"I thought the place had collapsed the day before".
She shakes her head.
"No, the underground bunker is still intact. Inside there is a small field hospital installed by the army. They took me there before those things ..."
Tears started to ran down her face.
"Do you know where it is?"
"It's next to the hospital. Going down the street. Do you want me to take you?"
