"Don't. Move." The words were firm, the most Jennifer had ever been on her assistant -- Samantha after had been such a good person to work with. Part of her did feel guilty about being so harsh now when her only crime was being too meticulous, but the shock of hearing her boss' voice like that would allow Jennifer to dictate the tempo of the situation. Leaving things to chance now by staying quiet was too risky now, Jennifer had calculated -- best to try to get out in front and try to prepare Sam mentally for what she was about to see about her boss.
"Miss Langford?" Despite the obvious confusion in her voice, Samantha didn't turn around to see Jennifer where her voice came from. Good, an opening. "Are you alright? I had only come in to drop off the reports you had asked me to--"
"Sam, don't worry, you're not in trouble with me. I know you know what you're doing. I trusted you with the keys to my office for a reason." Which turned out to backfire, but that's on Jennifer, not Sam. "I'm just asking you to trust me now when I say not to move. I'm...rather indecent at the moment." Well, she was naked.
"Oh..." It was only later in hindsight that Jennifer realized what kind of image she must have painted in her assistant's imagination between her words and that mess of sticky silk found on the floor -- she probably should have phrased it better. "Then...perhaps I can stay here while you find your clothes and get dressed?"
"Er...that will prove difficult right now, Samantha -- my clothes won't fit."
"Miss Langford?" Sam was definitely confused now. "I don't understand what you mean by that."
Jennifer took a breath. "I told you before that I once went on an archeological trip to Guatemala to explore Mayan ruins, right?"
"You did, yes."
"I never told the reason why I'm not still out there, did I?"
"No, you hadn't. I had the impression it might have ended poorly for some reason, so I didn't want to press."
"Well, that's...one way of putting it. I had to be evacuated due to a spider bite."
"Oh...but haven't you been working here for the past ten years?"
"Yes, well...out in the field you hear a lot of stories and legends about supposed curses associated with mysterious ruins. They tend to start sounding the same, and the mind starts to treat it like background noise. After all, it's just silly stuff about spiders and the moon, right? No way could they be real." The sarcasm in Jennifer's voice didn't need to be forced.
"Miss Langford?" Sam's voice now began conveying unease about the whole situation, which she could hardly be blamed for.
Now or never, Jennifer thought. "Sam, if you want to know why I'm acting this way...turn around slowly." As the new hire did, Jennifer made sure to cross her eight arms across her torso to try to preserve whatever modesty her eight endowed enhanced mammaries could be given as she slowly skittered sideways along the ceiling to the wall, making her way down to the floor so that she could see with her eight eyes how Samantha was reacting.
