That beast howled to the sky and as if responding to its invocation, humanoid figures materialized from the clouds of dust that covered the air of the conquered city.
A series of noises began to be heard above you, followed by voices shouting in a language you couldn't understand.
The light that filtered through the hole seemed to have disappeared. When you look up, your heart sinks when you see a dark shadow descend from the upper floor to the basement where you and your companions were taking refuge. Behind him, a duo of hooded figures followed, hovering in the air. One distinctively feminine and the other resembled a walking veil of darkness.
A fourth figure came down to the basement more abruptly; a four-legged beast that looked like a hound that had been shaved and with three heads. From one of these, hung what until a few minutes ago had been Pete. You tried to stay as far away from that thing as possible.
The first figure was intimidating and was encased in blood-crimson red armor. . His face was hidden behind a helmet that covered his entire face and had the shape of the head of a monstrous four-horned creature. The holes where his eyes should be, were filled by rubies as red as a twilight that caused fear to you and your companions.
You know from his looks that this guy must have been a big shot in the invading forces. And therefore you didn't want to fuck with him.
The warrior's voice was terrible and seemed to be directed at that beast that was following him. The Cerberus bowed ,almost respectfully, and threw the remains of Pete in your direction. You leap away, letting what was left of your partner crash into the wall behind you.
Seemingly pleased by this show of strength towards the captives, the giant directs his intimidating gaze in your direction. For a moment you ask yourself if you could communicate with that being, at a time when your instinct for self-preservation is skyrocketing, you wonder if there is some way to get out of that situation by trying to parley with those beings and make sure that this day was not going to be your last day on Earth.
And the answer your brain provided was pretty simple.
You were fucked.
There was no escape neither from your life, your sins nor from the contemptuous eyes of that monster. If they did not end up killing you, it was most likely that whatever they had reserved for you would not be pleasant at all.
You feel like some invisible hands moving inside your mind. Looking to the sides you realized that this feeling was not something isolated and that it was shared by all of you. It seemed to be looking into every dark corner of your being.
The hands finish releasing the grip on your brain and you regain the movement of your body. You had every intention of falling to the ground but you were completely terrified of what would happen if you showed even a moment of weakness.
The giant did not seem to be impressed by your moment of personal haughtiness and continued to observe you with those impassive crimson eyes.
His voice was terrible and it made your ears uncomfortable. His voice was terrible and it made your ears uncomfortable as if burning embers were introduced for them.
The trio of shadows seemed to have started arguing among themselves, about what, you couldn't imagine. But you think that at least part of the discussion was about you. Especially because of the way that humanoid-shaped darkness looked at you. At least you supposed he was, because that face was completely smooth with no trace of features.
This exchange seemed to last a few more minutes until the man in armor made a gesture with his right hand indicating that there was nothing more to discuss.
When he spoke again, this time he spoke in your language.
"Lesser beasts" Your heart seemed to have stopped at that statement. There was no longer any doubt about your destiny. The warrior turned to his companions “They do not deserve our time. I will call the guards and we will end the lives of these miserable creatures.”
