Jeff ran downstairs and sat at his usual spot at the table. Spaghetti with meat sauce and that's where the normal meal ended.
Dad wasn't sitting across from Mom but from Jeff, and rather than starting, the meal seemed to be on hold until Jeff served himself. Jeff picked up on the cue and started. "Sorry I'm late, was on the phone about a buggy program. Didn't mean to hold you up."
"So, How was your day Mom?" Jeff asked trying to avoid his Dad knowing it is destined to become awkward.
"Fine." she said as icicles practically shot out of her mouth.
"What's wrong?" Jeff asked
"Is anything about this right?" Her face contorted as she held back tears. Her glare passed from Jeff to Matt, back to Jeff, before she left the table and stormed up to her room.
Jeff sat in stunned silence not knowing what to do. "She's just bitter cause you make me happier than she ever could." Matt said starting to eat.
Jeff began eating too because, well, he's a teen. Around mid meal however Matt's foot began caressing Jeff's leg. Jeff didn't want to encourage the behavior but also didn't want to make Matt think something was wrong and that he needed to try harder so Jeff just continued eating while wracking his brain on how to fix this.
Removing Dad's attraction would be removing a part of Jenny, one of the very few parts left apparently. Going along with the relationship would hurt Mom. It would be foolish to think that Mom and Dad could just repair this... unless...
Jeff jumped suddenly as Matt's foot snuggled its way into his crotch. Jeff looked across the table to see Matt looking at him lustily. It was then that Jeff realized the chaste relationship he shared with Jenny wouldn't be the same type of relationship a 35 year old man would be expecting.
Jeff's phone cried out and Jeff answered it relieved for the distraction. "He-Hello Mrs. Miller, what can I do for you?"
"Could you please put Matthew on the phone?" She requested sternly but politely.
"Uh, its for you?" Jeff handed over the phone unsure what Jenny's mom would want with his dad.
Matt answered, "Yeah Mom? ... I'm at Jeff's on a date, of course I turned off my phone... Well I don't care if she called you in tears, and I don't care what SHE wants. Jeff makes me happier than she ever did..." Matt got up and went upstairs, Jeff heard the door to his room shut and could only reason that his Mom called Mrs. Miller to call her daughter a homewrecker, meaning his Dad has all the relationships of a 16 year old girl and married man, which aren't mixing nicely... and Matt wanted to make sure Jeff's Mom heard all the sassy comments he had to say to Mrs. Miller (his mom somehow) about how little he cared for his wife. Jeff was mortified.
Jeff's best solution was to redirect Matt's affection back to his mom, change reality to make that normal for everyone, and he can remember everything. The rest of this cluster could be sorted after.
