The walk to Roosevelt Elementary was not far and considering Gloria lived in a safe neighborhood the two grown down adults had little to fear. Still it didnt mean Gloria was looking forward to this.
Arriving on the playground Gloria glanced around at the other anxious kindergartners waiting to enter school. Gloria was all to familiar with this sight, having seen this with her own children and grandchildren.
Some kids were excited, some were crying, some were shy clinging to there parents legs. It seemed first day jitters were a universal thing that didnt change from generation to generation. "Cmon Gloria," Millie called. "Let's go play."
Gloria frowned as she watched the energetic blond girl skip towards a group of kids on the playground. It annoyed her to no end that Millie seemed to be enjoying this so much. For Gloria I guess it made sense. Millie had always been a ball of sunshine in her youth, an extrovert with boundless energy. Now reduced to an adorable girl with long curly blond hair Gloria could see that Millie would quickly become every bodies favorite.
That wasnt the case for Gloria. The raven haired girl had been painfully shy as a child, easily frightened and keeping to herself. Throw in the fact she had been a thumb sucker as a child and she wasnt exactly winning any popularity contests. It wasnt until when she got older that she found a source of confidence, blossoming into a vivacious and confident woman.
"This stinks," Gloria frowned, gazing at her childish wardrobe. "I wanted to be 25 not 5."
Trudging over to the playground Gloroa could see Millie was already making friends. The energetic girl already had attracted several children to her side as she raced through the playground. Gloria could see most of the kids seemed to gravitate towards Millie, only a single girl seemed to not be joining in.
The little red haired girl hung back from the crowd, her shyness apparent to Gloria. The grown down adult empathizing with the girl, she had been that child once.
Gloria sighed as she now gazed around the playground. She could see the teachers now dismissing the morning class, talking with the parents of the afternoon class. Kindergarten would be starting soon, Millie and Gloria would be restarting kindergarten for a day very soon.
