The woman brings Jacob into the changing room, but has her daughter wait outside. She locates the same diaper bag Jacob stole from before and takes it.
“You’re a smelly little boy,” she coos, laying Jacob on the baby changing station and removing his swim diaper. Jacob begins to squirm. “Now, now, don’t you want a change?” Jacob stills. He doesn’t want to be changed, but more than that, he wants out of this dirty diaper. “Good boy, being good for mama.”
“No mama,” Jacob protests. The woman pauses in the middle of wiping him down.
“I know,” she says. “But I’ve been wanting a baby lately, and this way, I don’t need to deal with pregnancy again.” Jacob’s blood runs cold. “And it’s not like people would believe you’re not my son, even if you tell them. After all, you can’t understand what I’m saying!” The woman tapes Jacob into a fresh, regular diaper and dresses him in a onesie from the bag. “Perfect! Now, let’s get out of here before your real mama realizes you’re missing. Or the person who owns this bag comes back for it.”
The woman quickly stuffs a pacifier into Jacob’s mouth to silence him, then hurries out of the changing room. She, Jacob, and Kimmie leave the gym. Apparently, they walked to the gym, so they walk back.
“We need to get your brother down for his nap,” she says in response to the girl’s complaints about leaving early. Kimmie frowns thoughtfully.
“I don’t have a brother.”
“Yes, you do,” the woman replies. “He’s new, so I understand why you forgot. But he’s your brother Davie. Do you remember now?” Kimmie’s frown clears. She nods.
“Yeah, I remember Davie!” she chirps. Jacob sucks more urgently on the pacifier. There goes one potential way the woman could be called out for kidnapping Jacob.
They arrive at the woman’s house. Kimmie is sent to her room to clean up, while Jacob is brought with the woman to a desktop computer. She bounces Jacob in her lap as she browses the web. After about fifteen minutes, she looks down at Jacob with a smile.
“There. That should fix the problem of me taking you.” Jacob suckles on the pacifier, yearning for some comfort. What could she have done that would resolve a kidnapping?
