The woman brings Jacob into the changing room. Kimmie follows, occasionally pointing out how much Jacob smells and how full his diaper is.
“Kimmie, he’s your little brother,” the woman scolds. “Don’t tease him like that!” Kimmie crosses her arms and huffs, but stops commenting on Jacob’s mess.
“All right, honey, time to get you into a fresh diaper!” the woman croons. She takes a diaper bag that Jacob didn’t see earlier, and heads over to a baby changing table. Jacob is laid on his back and his diaper removed. The woman hums cheerfully as she changes his diaper. “You made a big boom-boom!” she says playfully, poking Jacob’s nose.
The change goes by quickly. Before he knows it, Jacob is in a fresh swim diaper and a pair of toddler swim trunks. The three head back to the pool, where the woman brings Jacob into the pool with her, but stays in the shallow end and doesn’t let go of his life jacket.
Jacob’s mind races. Apparent, the woman actually believes that he is her son, making fixing his problem more difficult. Why is she so convinced she’s his mother?
