Seth isn’t there yet. Jacob sighs softly and decides to wait. He looks around for a place to hide, but before he can make any movements, the receptionist sitting at the front desk spots him.
“Hello there, sweetie,” the receptionist coos, getting up from the desk and walking over to Jacob. She crouches in front of him with a smile. “Are you lost?” Jacob shakes his head. “Are you looking for someone?” Jacob nods. “And you remembered to come to the front desk to get help! You’re such a smart, responsible little girl!” Jacob just nods very slightly. He’s unwilling to contradict the receptionist and reveal he’s a boy wearing a dress.
The receptionist picks Jacob up and brings him to the desk. She sits down with Jacob in her lap.
“Do you know the name of the person you’re looking for?” the receptionist asks. Jacob nods again. “Can you tell me?” Jacob tells her Seth’s full name, stifling a groan at how high-pitched his voice is. It adds to his discomfort being dressed as a girl.
The receptionist makes an announcement on the intercom, telling Seth to come to the front to pick up his little sister. Seth doesn’t actually have a little sister, but hopefully he’ll be curious enough to actually come pick up Jacob. Or maybe he’ll already figure out that it’s Jacob he’s being summoned to fetch. While they wait for Seth to come, the receptionist bounces Jacob on her knee, cooing at him nonstop. It’s very annoying.
After what feels like forever, Seth finally enters the lobby. He approaches the front desk.
“Uh, I’m here to pick up my…little sister?” he says in an uncertain voice. The receptionist smiles and hands Jacob over. Seth looks down at Jacob with an unreadable expression.
