"Fine, fine," said Terry. "Can't you wait through a few minutes of sentiment?"
Dave didn't respond.
"Okay, then." Terry looked at the dice and his wings. "This might be hard." He tried to pry his wings underneath the dice, but only succeeded in pushing them away. "Could someone please help me here?" he said.
Tom manouvered his new legs over to Dave and helped place the dice on Terry's wings.
Terry gave his wings a good shake and the dice tumbled off, landing on a 3 and 2. Terry pushed his counter forward.
"A yellow space," he muttered. "So my transformation contin-"
No sooner had he said this than his head contorted and shrunk until it looked just like a bat's, and his legs and body twisted and shrunk. Before the others' eyes, his entire body was turning to that of a bat.
Sue covered her mouth to stifle a scream.
As the changes ended, they saw that Terry's body looked exactly like that of a bat. "At least I can still see," he said. "And talk," he realised. He tested the strength of his wings and found himself flying. In his surprise, he slammed into a wall and collapsed to the ground.
"My god! Are you okay?" said Hannah, walking on all fours to Terry's collapsed form.
"I'll live," said Terry. "Keep playing. We have to finish this game."
"My turn, then," said Dave.
