Not fully familiar with their new phones, all three girls had to look to see whose was lighting up. It turned out to be Annabelle's.
She put the iPhone to her ear. "Hi, Mommy."
"No, we're driving home. We're in downtown."
"Uh-huh, yeah, we were there for that."
"No, it wasn't a trick! Mommy, you should see us!"
Kevin could actually hear his wife on the other end, as she raised her volume level: "What?! Oh, my God! What happened to you?!"
"Mommy, it's okay!" Annabelle responded. "We're more pretty now, even Kim, and we got a new car, and Daddy --"
Her mother was quieter now, so there were a few seconds of silence.
"No, it just changed into a new car! He said he'd give us rewards without asking sometimes, but we could also make wishes, or pray --"
"I don't think I should put him on. If you're driving, you're not supposed to --"
"Yeah, Mom, I do pay attention to things like that!"
"This isn't an emergency! Everything's fine!"
"Yeah, I was just gonna say, Daddy changed, too! I think you're gonna like it -- he's totally hot!"
Kevin finally jumped in, and stretched his right arm into the back seat. "Okay, Annie, it's fine if you hand it to me --"
Annabelle, though, said into the phone, "Mommy, calm down! Everything's fine! I wish..."
