"I wish you'd changed just like us, so you could see!"
Kevin could hear the scream on the other end of the line. Annabelle was holding the phone away from her ear. "Give me the phone, Annie," he said.
Annabelle put it into his outstretched hand. He raised it to his ear and heard his wife hyperventilating.
"Jennifer?" he said. "Jenn? Take some breaths, honey."
He heard a choking breath, and then one that was more regular, then another.
"Okay, honey, is everything okay?" he asked.
Her voice was still shaking. "I-I don't know. I -- my -- my body is all different."
"It can't be too different. The girls --"
"Well, it feels different to me!" she snapped, but then took another deep breath. "And my clothes, and -- I mean, they showed some people on the news, but when it happens to you --"
"It did happen to me," Kevin pointed out.
Jennifer chuckled. "And you got a new car out of the deal?"
"Yeah, it's an SUV. Fully loaded --"
"I wish I had a new car."
"Um, honey, you might want to cool it with the 'W' word."
"Oh, yeah, that's something they said on the news -- and I guess Annie said it --" Jennifer took a couple of deep breaths. "I don't think we can do anything on the phone, and you should concentrate on your driving. I'm gonna see if anything else happened around here."
"Okay," said Kevin. "I guess we're 15 minutes away. Love you, no matter what you look like."
"Heh, maybe I should make a wi-- a 'W,' and test that," Jennifer retorted. "Love ya."
Kevin handed the phone back to his older daughter in the back seat.
