“Why don’t you wait with me until your mommy and daddy come to get you?” the woman says. Before Jacob can decline, she digs a toddler leash out of the diaper bag and puts it on him. “There.” Jacob jumps to his feet, wearing just the diaper, and tries to run. But the toddler leash does its job well. He can’t get more than a few feet away from the woman.
Pouting, Jacob sits on the ground, painfully aware of the cushion provided by his diaper. He watches others swimming in the pool, both teens his previous age and toddlers his current age. After an indeterminate amount of time, the woman walks over to him and checks his diaper.
“A little damp, but boys your age tend to dribble,” she announces. Jacob blushes furiously. She picks Jacob up, bringing him back to her spot. “You look like you could use a snack.” Jacob’s stomach growls. The woman giggles. “I was right.”
“Tank ooh,” Jacob mumbles as the woman hands him crackers and a juice box. He hungrily devours the crackers and guzzles down the drink in record time. The woman is brushing crumbs off him when someone approaches.
“Oh, you found my brother!”
Jacob looks up, wondering who is claiming to be his sibling.
