…well, that was not what Taylor expected to find.
Turns out neither of the adult Woods believe in God, but rather they believe in power. People look at pastor and his family, thinking they can do no wrong – and the actually religious believe in them – so this gives them a sort of power over the population, explaining how they get away with the attitudes they have. Nobody would dare to think they are in the wrong or if anyone were to accuse them of something Pastor Woods would just give them something from that book that he twists to fit his need and the situation.
Which explains why they are so hateful of people not from their church – it’s not the religion, they can’t muster enough care in them to tell the denominations apart and those outside people don’t give them money.
Which is another reason they keep the positions – the money given during Sunday service. Money that should be used for the upkeep of the church is instead spent on lavish trips and expensive purchases – ‘That explains both of them owning those shiny new cars, actually’ – and the fact the few times Taylor had been in the church the place looks like it really needs a good repair job before it falls down like a house of cards.
‘Okay…this is something…Greed, Gluttony and Vanity, some Apathy in there, definitely Wrath too, for the both of them.’ Taylor mulled it over, ‘They like the prestige the shiny title gives them and are too self-absorbed to share their wealth with their kids, which explains their need for control, to keep the charade of Good Christians with Good Christian Values, and that half of what Maggie owns is hand-me-downs.’
Taylor contemplated her options with those two.
