As they continue shopping, no one bats an eye at Leah’s disguise. It seems to work. But Leah can’t help a growing worry that if someone she knows sees her, she’ll be recognized immediately.
“Tina, is there anything else that can make my disguise better?” she whispers. Tina frowns thoughtfully.
“Well, let’s go check the baby aisle, Aspen.” She pushes the cart down the baby aisle. “Ooh, I think I see a few things.” She grabs a blue pacifier. “If you suck on this, no one will even suspect you’re a teenager.”
“What about pretending to be a boy?” Leah pries.
“Hmm.” Tina looks around the aisle. Her eyes land on a baseball cap. “This.” She puts it on Leah’s head, then pops the pacifier into Leah’s mouth. “I thought your disguise was perfect already, but now, you look like you could be one of my charges at work.”
“Good,” Leah says around the pacifier. Tina pokes her nose.
“Try not to talk. That would make your disguise less effective, Aspen,” she instructed. Leah nods. She sucks on the pacifier. “Good boy.”
They continue shopping, and as they do, the disguise grows on Tina, who is enjoying the errands.
