“Those,” Leah says, pointing out a pair of overalls.
“Uh, those are boy overalls,” Tina says.
“Exactly. I need to up my disguise in case of another accident. Dress me like a boy,” Leah says.
“If that’s what you want.” Tina grabs the boy overalls, as well as a pair of tennis shoes, then purchases them quickly. “We’re not done shopping,” she says as she removes Leah from the cart seat and sets her on a bench. “I just needed to purchase these. We’ll finish shopping once you’re dressed.”
In short time, Leah is dressed like a boy. Tina gives her a phone to look at her reflection with. Leah frowns.
“I still look like a little girl.” She looks up at Tina. “Cut my hair.”
“What? Sweetie, are you sure?”
“Yes! I can get it touched up by a professional later. Pixie cuts are in, anyways.”
“If that’s what you want…”
“It is,” Leah says firmly. Tina sighs, but removes a pair of safety scissors from her purse and trims Leah’s hair to be more boyish. With the haircut, her disguise is complete. Tina wouldn’t even recognize her stepdaughter if she hadn’t cut her hair herself. “That’s better,” Leah confirms when she sees the haircut. “Now, we can keep shopping.”
“I’ll call you Aspen while you’re dressed as a boy,” Tina says, putting Leah back in the cart seat. “I’ve always wanted a little boy named Aspen.”
“I’m not little, and I’m not a boy.”
“No, but you’re pretending to be both.” Tina pushes the cart back into the main area of the store. “Now, let’s finish the shopping, Aspen.”
