Leah heads for her room, ready to put her proper clothes back on. She quickly discovers, however, that she can only do so much to look her proper age. There’s a large bulge around her waist from the diaper whenever she puts on pants or shorts. And even in skirts and dresses, every movement causes rustling. She’d try to work around the rustling noise, but no matter what she does to her hair, she can’t make it look good. Tina’s impromptu haircut is unavoidably juvenile. Leah will need to go to a salon to get it fixed.
By the time Tina calls Leah for lunch, Leah has tried everything, with no luck. She heads back to the kitchen, still wearing only a diaper and shirt. Tina looks up when she enters the room.
“I’m surprised you haven’t changed,” she remarks. Leah scowls.
“With this diaper and haircut, nothing I do makes me look my actual age.”
“Oh. Well, I’ll schedule a haircut for you, so we can get your hair fixed.”
“Thank you,” Leah mumbles. Tina hands her a plate of chicken nuggets.
“Go ahead and watch some TV, okay?”
“Okay.” Leah goes into the adjacent living room. She sits on the floor and turns on the TV. Nothing good is on her usual channel, so she flips through the stations idly. She stops her surfing when she gets a text from her best friend, Tonya, leaving the TV on a channel for babies and toddlers.
Distracted by her phone, Leah doesn’t notice the doorbell ringing, or when Tina answers the door and lets whoever it is in. Leah sets down her phone just as their visitor walks into the living room. Leah freezes, mortified that she’s been seen in this state by…
