Maggie looked over to where Michael was, her brother having a very animated and fun talk with the person on the other end, Michael even having a light sparkle in his eyes whenever the other spoke. It was kind of cute, certainly reminded Maggie of the times she saw some of the other girls at school talking to or about their datemates.
Especially considering Michael had been on the phone well over an hour. At least, as far as Maggie knows, she had been about an hour up, now finishing up plain breakfast of cereal and milk, so who knows what the actual time was. But it was well past an hour when Michael finally said the words “well, then I’ll see you! Take care!” and ended the call, but not putting it away, as he stared at the device a bit numb.
“So, who was that?” Maggie put down her cereal bowl in the sink.
“Remember James, the Stones kid?”
“The woodwork guy? Yeah, a bit. Why? Did something happen?”
“Weeeell…” Michael had a slightly sly smile, “Firstly, her name is now Janice,” Maggie’s jaw dropped at that, “And she wants to visit and catch up!”
“Hey, that’s great news!” Maggie couldn’t help but grin – Michael never had that many friends in his life, so it was great that someone who made him so happy as the phone call showed was coming to visit. James might have never really blipped on her radar more then a presence, but, hey, people change, perhaps Janice will make things more fun in the long run, “When does she plan to come?”
“Next weekend. Maybe Friday evening, she’ll see how the scheduling works out.” Then he blinked, “Wait, she’s coming next week…” Michael started moving, tearing through the house, “We need to be spotless!”
“Michael, c’mon! We only have, what a few days here? This place cannot get cleaner!” If there was one FLEA that got permanently stuck on Michael from the Woods parents, it was their mothers incessant need for a clean house. Fortunately, Michael was the kind to do it himself, instead of barking others around in his stead like their mother.
“We cannot allow the people to know we sit!”
“Did you just quote a meme?!” Maggie doesn’t know why that of all things would cause her so much surprise. She’ll later blame in the stress and huge changes done to her life.
Deciding to leave him to his energized cleaning spree that she wanted to be no part of, Maggie turned to go into her room, where she found two street cats on top of the parent-cats…
“WHAT THE FUCK?!”
