Eric tossed the dice. This time he landed on a blue square.
“Before we get to the end we must decide, whose clothes we think we most desire. You must choose before you rest, which player is the best dressed?”
‘So it’s asking who is the best dressed. No offense Amy and Jen but it’s got to be Nicky. You’re both just wearing jeans and sneakers and I’m not exactly dressed up. In contrast Nicky could be heading out to a cocktail party’
‘I can’t disagree with you Eric. Nicky is the best dressed’ admitted Amy.
‘What? Don’t my designer jeans do it for you Eric?’ said Jen sarcastically ‘And as for my sneakers’ She raised her feet up so everyone could see her shoes. !!##???? What the Fuck?? Look at my feet’ Jen was almost screaming. ‘I have Nicky’s shoes!!’
Everyone else was looking with wide eyes at the shoes on Jen’s feet. They were the green stilettos Nicky had been wearing earlier.
Nicky was the first to talk ‘They are my shoes but they are also not. I still have my shoes on my own feet!’
Everyone turned to look at Nicky’s feet. Sure enough she was still wearing an identical pair of green shoes.
‘Where did these come from?’ asked Jen. ‘They fit me. They feel comfortable’
‘It must be the game’ said Amy who was looking pale. ‘It’s real magic. I think we should quit’
‘Er. The rules did say something about not quitting once a game was started’ Eric was scrambling for the brief instructions ‘Here it warns of “Unintended consequences and random changes can occur if the game is not finished”
‘What does that mean?’ asked Nicky ‘Didn’t you read the rules properly before you started?’
‘They are pretty brief. It just says “Toss in turns and answer the questions truthfully. The first player to the purple square at the end is the winner” There is another line that says “Changes will revert the next day” then it has the warning I read before. That’s it’
‘Well do we go on?’ asked Jen. ‘I’m quite happy to have designer shoes even if it is just for one night’
‘I guess so’ said Amy apparently changing her mind. ‘I don’t want unintended changes or random consequences and it is pretty clear that changes will revert at dawn. It would be fun to have Nicky’s legs’
‘I’m in’ said Nicky
‘I guess if I said no, I’d be outvoted’ observed Eric. ‘Whose turn were we up to?’
