Megan grunted impatiently. She had always been so punctual. Not only was she adept at waking up right when her alarm was about to go off, she had her morning routine planned out to allow for plenty of time for unexpected developments or last-minute tasks at home before heading to work. The past week or so, however, Megan found it increasingly harder to get her hair together. Her usual brush snagged on the dark locks, and it seemed to dislike being pinned into her usual bun. She needed more clips to hold it in place.
She stared into the mirror for a time, as if scowling at the reflection of her hair would intimidate it into cooperating. It was definitely time to visit the hairdresser. She'd missed her last appointment...how long ago now? Must have been at least six weeks. But her hair seemed like it had grown really fast. It had been a long time since she let it grow out, but she was sure it didn't get this long so quickly.
She definitely needed a trim. She had felt so foolish. The haircut reminder had come up on her phone, just like everything else she put into her calendar. But she had swiped it off the screen and forgotten about it entirely. And then she had forgotten to call to reschedule.
She marched into her bedroom to find her phone and called up the place right then and there. Two minutes later, she had a shiny new appointment in her calendar app and was back in the bathroom teasing her hair.
As she looped her thick strands around one another atop her head, her thoughts drifted to Will. He'd been coming over a lot more often the past two months. She had started to stock his favorite food and drinks in her fridge and cabinets so that she wouldn't have to keep making special trips every time he texted her for a last-minute visit. He always gave her the courtesy of phoning ahead, even if they tended to be short-notice texts.
Their relationship had never been better. It wasn't just about the sex, either. With more time to spend together, they started indulging in each others' favorite activities. They seemed to navigate through arguments and settle into a compromise more easily. Megan felt like she was finally getting to know Will...or at least, how to please him. And he certainly was pleasing her. Especially in bed.
Will had undergone some changes of his own, though less subtle than Megan's breast growth. He had a little more girth downstairs, for one thing. But he also seemed to be shaving less often. Some nights, when he hadn't worked a shift, he would arrive with a day and a half of shadow on his jawline. But the previous night, he had shown up with particularly prickly stubble and sheepishly admitted he had forgotten to shave for work that day. The remarks he said he got from his coworkers reminded Megan of the way she was being treated lately for her potty mouth.
Her boss had actually called her into her office to ask her to tone down the cursing. She was surprised and kind of upset at the chastising she had to sit through. She worked hard and she tried to get along with everyone--even that brat Darius. A few curses slung around in jest every so often shouldn't be such a big deal.
Besides, Will loved it when she screamed his name, couched between a couple of particularly passionate f-bombs as he came in her.
The sound of her own giggling interrupted her train of thought, and also reminded her that she had to get going. She quickly finished securing her hair bun and put on a splash of makeup, hurrying out the door. She would probably make it to work, but by just a hair.
She smirked at the metaphor.
