Lately, Darla can’t help but think that life, in some respects, had become more like a movie. Maybe not exactly romcom or something of the sort, but the nice, sunny clear days, the (overall) great time at the mall with Taylor and later with Maggie and Michael and now having a boyfriend to go to prom with – well, forgive a girl if she was feeling a little giddy with joy.
Right now, Darla was preparing for a study session with Tony – the subject: each other – later in the afternoon, so, here she was, trying to do that braid she saw on Taylor the other day, but currently not having much luck on that front, “C’mon! Work with me, hair! How does she always do it!”
With a final huff, Darla just settled for a regular French braid…until she realized she forgot the hair ties, thus the work was for naught. Now groaning, the girl just goes for loose, but now with curls from the attempted braiding’s, hairstyle, hoping it’ll still look nice when Tony comes over.
Darla looked at the clock – she still had like 15 minutes, before Tony arrived and she was ready. The adults were out, Taylor was with Maggie, the house looked nice and the snacks were ready. As Darla got the bathroom to look less cluttered, she considered having some perfume on her – but not what she or her mom has. Tony probably knows them all by name and her mom has some really flowery ones that are more likely to cause allergic reactions within a 10-mile radius. Darla then recalls that Taylor has some nice ones, though. Maybe if Darla just used a little, the older girl wouldn’t notice that it’s been used.
Taking note of the remaining time, Darla sneaks into the older girl’s room, carefully moving things to make it seem that nobody had been in the room and going through the stuff, as she looked at the likeliest place Taylor kept her perfume collection.
When Darla seemed to have hit jackpot with the search, a ball of scrunched up paper fell from it’s hiding place and onto the floor. Darla, curiously, picks the piece of paper up and unravels it. On it was scribbled in a barely legible version of Taylor’s normal handwriting:
make (unintelligible) equal
global afforestation?
random (unintelligible) from megacorps
not just shrooms being magic?
If you opened a dictionary to find confusion, you would find Darla’s face as it is right now. She has no idea of what to make of this list of…ideas? Are these ideas Taylor writes down when bored or when she wakes up in the middle of the night while still dreaming? That would explain the horrible handwriting, but not the source behind the ideas.
Darla shakes her head as she takes another look at the list and tries to decipher at least one of the words, to get an idea as to what it is about. ‘Looks like…‘people’? Make people equal? Or…maybe it’s pay? Payment?’ Darla scratches her head at that, ‘Well, Taylor is smart and talented, if she’s trying to come up with some sort of future plan, then she could probably pull it off, but what the fuck, is she just writing down what comes to mind for a company or does she want to invest in each idea?’
Knock-knock-knock!
Darla’s head snaps to where Taylor’s clock is and sees that she has spent way too long here – especially, if Tony has already arrived!
Darla decides to put this line of thought to rest now – not like she’ll get an answer that satisfies the questions. Not without asking Taylor directly, but Darla doesn’t want her sister to know she had snooped through her room and found the page. So, the younger teen puts the ball of paper back where it was and, after taking a few whiffs of the perfume, heads down to get this study date going.
