Isekai Possession: A Modern City (ver. 2)

The sky split into two. The plumes of flame were bright but it is obscured by the thick, dark, and thunderous clouds in the sky. The meteor crashed down in a desolate alley, that mysteriously left no impact marks on the ground. Alec shook his head awake. It felt like stones are pounding him like pestle and mortar. He grabbed the nearest support and realized that it is the lid of a dumpster. It covered his fingers with a slick goo that smelled most foul. It seared into his lungs like red scissors. He is supposed to rub the goo on his clothes, then he realized, he had no clothes. There are loose patches of fabric hanging loosely on his shoulder. Its edges are soot black and the surface is steaming from the heat. Alec did what he could and rubbed off the goo in a brick wall nearby. He looked for a cardboard box to cover his private areas and walked around to see where the idiot deity sent him.

He said he would be sent to another world but it seems that the environment around him does not look that different. Buildings stand ominously tall around him. The windows are lit but they are covered in the privacy of curtains. Just as he is finding his footing around this world, he heard a man call out behind him. He looked around to see a man wearing a blue polo and a darker tinge as pants. Alec knew who they are and what they do. He has seen them in television shows or internet videos where they round up homeless beggars and send them to social services.

"Sir," He called.

Alec gripped his cardboard coverings tighter and went closer to the man. He is a neat looking guy, with short hair and square glasses. His cheeks are peppered with light freckles and under it is a thin inviting innocent smile.

"Social services, sir. Do you have a current place of residence?"

"Umm… No?"

"If you haven't heard yet, there is a storm coming and we're helping the homeless find shelter while it passes."

Alec looked above him and the skies look dark indeed, but there's a tint of orange from light pollution. Deep drums are emanating beyond those clouds. There are flashes of lighting. The air spells the cold and it shivered the already naked Alec.

"Do you have any belongings?"

"No. Just this cardboard," Alec looked down, looking embarrassed. A god could make him immune from crashing down the skies, but he did not give the same invulnerability to his clothes. What an asshole.

"Follow me and we'll give you clothes and warm soup."

Alec followed the man in this labyrinth of alleyways, nooks, and crannies. He could hear faint sirens in the background, signaling the coming of a huge storm. Above, he could see towering buildings and rotating lights. Then there's a large blimp descending from the heavens and into a port nearby. Alec rubbed his eyes to see if what he saw were real but it was too late as the blimp is now obscured by the thicket of buildings. Just as he was doing so, he did not realize the puddle he stepped on. He slipped and came crashing towards the social service guy. He expected a thud but nothing came. Alec knew he hit something but he found himself standing alone in the alleyway now wearing clothes and standing slightly taller. On his wrist is a watch that says, 9:05 PM. He looked at his hands and saw that immediate difference. These hands are calloused and stubby. Everything is different wrong. The tempo of his breathing is on a different tune. There's a faint taste of taco under his breath, and his saliva tasted faintly strange. Alec groped on his head as he was barraged by a more painful headache. On his mind, several memories flashed over him. Strange visions of a different perspective told him snippets of his new life. His name is Eric, a college-dropout and now working as a social service to help the community. Alec could not understand these visions and he does not know a way to make them stop.

The pain was too much. Alec crouched on the ground and in doing so, he was met face to face with the reflection much different than his own. He now wore eyeglasses. His hair is kept relatively shorter and shaved at the sides. He groaned in pain but his voice was different - deeper and more mature. His voice was familiar as much as the reflection he saw. Somehow or in some way, he became the guy that was supposed to help him.

Alec's mindscape flashed once more - a final note from the asshole deity that sent him here. He has received a gift from the heavens. Alec could claim bodies by possessing them. Phase through a person and he could control them from within. It will be second nature to him. This will be his key to live in this new world.

Alec stood from the ground, now armed with the gift given him to him. His pained lips folded into joy. This gift will be most useful. Most useful indeed. With his new set of memories, what did Alec do next?
