It was now late at night; the dotted night sky is clear with only a hint of where the moon is. Most people would be in their beds and dreaming the night away, resting up after a long day of events to face the next set in the coming dawn.
But not Taylor.
The reality changer was laying in bed and thinking. Worrying. Especially of what’s coming the next day…or is today, she wonders and looks at the clock, seeing the time showing 11:54.
“I could just change it…so I hadn’t done anything to get their attention…or just hide it better…” Taylor sighs and rolls over on her stomach, “Of all the things to stress me out and it’s a talk with a not-cult of a goddess who gave me powers…” Taylor watched the seconds tick by before it occurred to her, “The goddess…”
She jumped up and changed her PJ’s into something at least nice and comfortable, before looking towards the dark sky, “You got me into this mess, so how about some advice! Madame!” For a split second, nothing happened. Then Taylor felt like something is yanking and punching her simultaneously and she begins to shoot upwards into the sky, space and beyond.
Peripherally, she watched as the stars and planets became but streaks of color as she rushed by, growing in numbers until it was a streaked wall before thinning out to individual dots and then…darkness.
Her eyes adjusted and before Taylor was the expansive and impressive goddess with the free-flowing hair. She just smiled at the young human, “I had been wondering when the commune would reach out to you. They certainly took their time.”
“Okay, so it was you.” Taylor deadpanned.
“Well, yes. And no.” Now Taylor was confused, so Madame explained, “I did create your universe and everything in it, but I didn’t stay with it the entire time. Sometimes, I would do universe level changes that affected everyone and everything. After all, didn’t you wonder why your universe has bipeds as dominant?”
“But how does that explain the not-cult?”
The other chuckled, “Well, the original humans I picked for my followers were more for my interest in how they liked the changes. A sort of…commentary. I needed to know if there is something I should do or change. Omnipotence does not equivale omniscience, so my followers became my advisors.”
“But…what does that mean for me?”
“Advisor and goddess should not have the same views – what would be the point of an advisor if that were the case. You reacted and did things that you thought needed to be done – and you did well, my dear, but there are parts of life, you must not have thought about how to change. So, my girls returned with the job to advise.”
“But why them? Why orchestrate all this instead of just assigning one to me?”
“Variety. Yes, you see and did make things better, but what have you missed? The commune has a number of members you can listen and get ideas of what to do, but whether you do or not is up to you. Some do have their agenda, after all.”
“So just listen and decide what to do…”
“Basically.”
“But…I have so many questions still…why Gabriel’s friend, for one?!”
“Funny enough,” Goddess began, “That wasn’t how I had intended for them to make contact with you. I was considering a sister of a friend of Darla’s for the job. But don’t think I opposed to the river of fate taking a different route, as this way turned out better in the end.”
“If I listen to them…what sort of surprises I should be expecting?”
The goddess just chuckled and Taylor found herself falling, breath leaving drastically and painfully, before she found herself landing on her bed. The clock read 11:55. Taylor groaned, knowing now that the only way she’ll sleep is a magic induced method… “Great…”
