Michael and Gabriel were watching the game while they waited for the girls to come home from the mall. The game wasn't that close.
The cat that had formerly been their mother was sitting on Gabriel's lap. She purred as he stroked her. "Kinda lucky, don't you think?" Gabriel asked his brother.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, Maggie's with another girl, Taylor, and you're with Janice, and I don't think Mom or Dad would have been too crazy about either."
"Are you saying that there's a problem with Janice?"
"Not at all, Janice is awesome. I mean, she fixed that annoying ping in my car nobody else could. But people like Mom and Dad. . ."
"Yeah, OK, I guess it is kinda lucky. For us. Maybe not for them."
"I don't know. I mean, she seems pretty happy." She was pushing her head under Gabriel's hand. "Don't know how Dad feels about being pregnant." Gabriel's phone rang. "Uh-huh. Uh-huh. OK." He stood up and put the phone in his pocket. "Booty call?" asked Michael.
Gabriel gave a short laugh. "Yeah. It's like she spent the last year locked up in a nunnery."
"Enjoy."
