It was lunchtime. The bell had just rung, and the empty halls of John F. Kennedy High School were suddenly transformed into halls of loud, rushing traffic. Kids were pouring out of the classrooms, teachers were walking around with papers, trying to make their way through the crowds while legions of students were laughing, talking, or just simply walking their way through the crows in silence.
Ty had swung his backpack over his back and held on to his front straps, as he patiently made his way through the crowd. He just wanted to get down the hall and then turn into the cafeteria, but the crowd wasn’t letting him through. Ty appeared to be just another average student, except for one thing, which set him apart. He had the power.
“I wish everybody would just freeze right now” Ty wished silently.
Suddenly, all motion stopped. Every student was frozen in place, except Ty. The loud noise had suddenly stopped and there was a deep silence.
Ty just smiled. He slowly walked his way through the hallway of statues, carefully finding a path between the frozen students until he made it to the other side of the hallway. When he finally made it to the entrance to the cafeteria, he turned around and smiled.
“When I snap my fingers, you will all unfreeze. Nobody will notice that anything unusual has happened here!” he whispered.
Ty walked up to the beginning of the line in the cafeteria, where he saw Kent. As soon as he stood next to Kent, he snapped his fingers.
The laughter, shouts, and the buzzing of the many conversations came back to life again, as if nothing had happened. Nobody noticed that time had stood still for about fifteen seconds or so, thanks to a student named Ty Hanson.
Ty just smiled.
“I love my power” he chuckled, as he stood in line, waiting to be served.
