Prom was just around the corner and Darla still. Did. Not. Have. Her. Dress!
Oh sure, there were plenty of dresses in her closet and a bunch of cute ones at the stores, but none of them were The Dress. Sure, Tony will think she looks beautiful in any dress she wears, but it’s the principle of the thing! And nothing Darla sees in the stores or catalogues clicks with what she wants in a dress.
Until, searching through the catalogue of one particular shop, Darla spotted it: cute, fit flare type dress, colored a pastel lavender color, with a sequin pattern. It was perfect.
One problem with it though…and only one person can truly help her with that dress…
“Taylor?” Darla knocked on the closed door. The sound of sudden shuffling came from behind it, before Taylor opened the door, “What up?”
“Well, I need some help with a thing.”
“What thing?”
“Well, I want this dress,” Darla showed Taylor the article in question, “But the only store that sells it is in the next town over…so…could you pretty please go with me to get it?”
“And not ask our parents because?”
“You heard how dad thinks that buying a special dress is a waste of money and mom is busy right now. You’re the only one I can ask. Well, there is Maggie, but she is busy with those kittens, so that leaves you.”
“Charming,” Taylor deadpanned at being the last pick, but takes the magazine and looks over the dress, “Are you sure this is the only place that sells this dress? It could have been hiding behind some other dresses in the stores.”
“We checked and rechecked! No dress there is perfect and this is the only one that speaks to me!”
Taylor hummed in thought for a moment, “How about we go and make one last check, just to be sure?”
“We’re wasting time, but fine!” Darla went to get her purse and jacket, not seeing the slight smile appearing on Taylor’s face…
Having searched through all the possible stores over several days, Darla deemed the right dress to not be anywhere in the town. She had been adamant that the two were wasting time on a fruitless trip and need to go to the neighboring town to get the dress. But instead, well, she found it. Darla could hardly believe her luck. There is was: the dress she wanted, being placed on a mannequin for display just as they were entering the store. And it was in her size!
As Darla was busy twirling from joy in the new dress, Taylor smiled, “What do you say we go for shoes and maybe some cute accessories to match?”
