Nova relished the sensation, which filled her with warm pleasure. However, there was still something tugging at her. Something she couldn't quite place. Step by step, one paw in front of the other, Nova left the mauled cadaver behind her and proceeded beyond the cabin, to the hole. Standing on the edge, her fiery eyes narrowed as though she were looking for something. Something she expected to see.
Without warning, the hellhound leaped into the hole, drilling downward as though it had something in mind. Whether due to exuded gases or a slick formed by the rotting corpses beneath the water, flame spread across the hole. The hellhound, however, had slipped beneath the surface. Seconds ticked by. Then minutes. Finally, a dark shape wreathed in flame broke the surface, dragging in its maw a decomposing body.
The hole that Nova as a human had so much trouble exiting proved slight obstacle to the hellhound. In fact, it easily escaped with its quarry intact. Its quarry being the carcass that was once Nova's human body. Whether or not Nova was consciously aware of her actions at this point was anyone's guess. However, it was hard to believe she had the mental wherewithal for what happened next.
As though it were downing a great feast, the hellhound began to consume the rotting corpse, tearing apart and chewing to pieces flesh and bone. Backlit by the flames in the murder pit, the hellhound continued its gory banquet, not pausing nor hesitating until every last inch had disappeared down its dark gullet.
Like a glutton after stuffing itself, the hellhound weaved over to the foot of a nearby tree, then lay down to enjoy a well-earned nap.
